Perhaps one of the greatest compliments that God gave to Abraham is found in Genesis 18:19. "For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him." (NKJV).
It seems clear that God chose Abraham because he realized the importance of teaching his children to “keep the way of the LORD”. May all parents, grandparents, and guardians learn from Abraham’s example their duty to teach and instruct the children with whom you have been entrusted. This instruction was repeated to the Israelites in Deuteronomy 6:7.
I have not yet meet a loving parent who doesn’t want the very best for their child that they can provide. Loving parents, grandparents, and guardians will transport child everyday despite the high cost of gasoline in order to provide a “good education” for them. What lengths do you suppose Abraham went to in order to teach his offspring to “keep the way of the LORD”? Abraham saw great value in his offspring knowing what GOD expects and he didn’t take the matter lightly. How important is God’s word to you and to your family? Are you establishing good habits of taking part in Bible classes and involving yourself in the assembly of children of God? Should you be entrusted with a precious young soul, will God see the same quality in you that he saw in Abraham? Are we today, as children of Abraham through faith, continuing the great legacy that is set before us in the scriptures?
